The Daily Mail recently reported that Aston Villa have offered veteran free agent James Collins a five-week contract.
The 35-year-old has been without a club since leaving West Ham at the end of last season. However, with cover for Axel Tuanzebe and James Chester desperately needed, Dean Smith appears to have decided to offer the 6’2” man a route back into the game.

The aforementioned report notes that the Villans plan to review Collins’ situation in January before deciding whether or not to extend his deal until the end of the season.
Unless Smith brings significant defensive reinforcements to Villa Park in the upcoming winter transfer window, then the club ought to offer the 51-cap Wales international a contract that lasts until the end of the campaign.
Collins’ experience would make him an asset to the Villa squad, and plenty of the clubs supporters would like to see the defender stick around. In our recent poll, 67% of the club’s fans voted in favour of giving Collins a contract until the end of the season. See the full results below.
