Tottenham star Son Heung-min has beaten Al-Nassr ace Cristiano Ronaldo to the Best Footballer in Asia award for 2023.

Spurs' Son picked up this award for the seventh year in a row. The 31-year-old took 22.9% of the vote, edging out fellow South Korean international Kim Min-Jae of Bayern Munich (19.54%) and Al-Nassr's Ronaldo (17.06%). This is the ninth time Son has claimed this prestigious prize in his career.

Son is a superstar in South Korea and a fan favourite at Tottenham, a club where he is now captain. While this award will mean a lot to him, the forward will want to pick up some silverware either for Spurs or his country in 2024.

Despite not winning this award, Ronaldo scored more goals than any other player in 2023. The 38-year-old bagged 53 goals last year as the Portuguese international continues to show he still has plenty to offer in the twilight years of his career.

Son featured for South Korea in their 3-1 win over Bahrain in their Asian Cup opener on Monday. Next up, the Spurs star will line up against Jordan on Saturday, before rounding off their group stage campaign against Malaysia on January 25. He could be out for Spurs until mid February if the Reds win the tournament.
